A Photo Story by Jamie Harker During December of 2017, Water Valley community leaders, produced a series of photo documentaries marking the Mississippi Bicentennial and important success stories. Jaime Harker is the latest addition to Main Street in Water Valley, opening the state’s only queer and feminist-focused bookstore in early December. In her photo essay, "Big Enough For All Of Us” she marks the Bicentennial by honoring the can-do spirit of women who set the tone of inclusivity and creativity in the South, examining the continued impact of the state’s anti-LGBTQ law, and sharing her aspiration to bring diverse literature to rural Mississippi. "The idea of providing a safe space to people who are different is really important. Violet Valley Bookstore is a space that says, ‘We want you here. You're welcome here. Come here, be here.’" - Jaime Harker, Owner, Violet Valley Bookstore Jaime Harker's book, The Lesbian South: Southern Feminists, the Women in Print Movement, and the Queer Literary Canon, will be released by the University of North Carolina Press in the fall of 2018.
